Smearing the Lines Between News and Opinion

It’s so difficult, to watch and read news these days. It’s the use of government, special interest, and corporate quotes as facts. It’s representing these statements as truth, with no follow-up investigation to assure truth and accuracy in the reporting, that is disturbing.
The smearing of the line between news facts and opinion, until one isn’t discernible  from the other, by most viewers and readers, is an important  issue . The act alone, almost precludes consumers of these forms of media, from making logical choices based in fact. With dumbed down  news programs, that are short on fact replacing the pertinent, with word manipulation, opinion based propaganda, and additions or censorship’s for the sake of supporting a corporate agenda, I’m not sure what I expect.

These circumstances within sources of information amount to at least lies of omission, and at worst bold-faced overt lies.

Some might think I’m referring to one source over another, right or left broadcasting. No, that is my point. Right/Left broadcasting is counter productive. Whether it’s Fox News or MSNBC, whether it’s Rachel Maddow or Sean Hannity, whether it’s Piers Morgan or Bill O’Reilly, presenting the opinions it matters not. It’s all a disservice to the public.

The public is now and will be, denied facts, investigation, and truth. We’re fed a news diet of opinion based fear and greed. News that’s full of saturated fat, additives, preservatives, and sweeteners. An information diet so unhealthy, were it food, Michael Bloomberg would try to limit or cut it completely from your diet.

SOTU: Playing with Words

Playing with words….I found this amusing, in looking at how the Catholic Church describes Priests who have abused young church parishioner . They use the word homophile. I believe, considering those who sustained the abuse were generally all children,  the proper word is pedophile.

This is an easy and current example, of something that’s done all the time. Obviously churches use this method of word replacement, to adjust meaning and impact. But governments, broadcasters of information, public relations marketing/advertising agencies, and anyone who is desirous of shaping and forming public opinion, also use this method.

Words have power. Words can excite, anger, annoy, and cause one to ignore. Words can clarify and words can cloud. With a State of the Union Address tonight, there’s a chance to see a Master of word manipulation, who’s assisted by other masters of substance camouflage , at the top of their game.  The sheer spectacle, fun for the entire  family.

You could use the cancelling technique throughout the address, marking and cancelling statements that contradict each other. My bet is, by the end of the President’s 30-60 min address, using the cancelling technique, you may actually find nothing’s been said at the addresses end.

Make the Transformation

The observer in me has little to do with, the entertainments on offer from the mainstream media.

I  know when my taste for the light programing on offer, transformed. I had been a TV junkie from youngster, into my mid-teens. The sheer fiction, was an escape then for me. The change was a realization, while watching real people in real distress, over a 90 day period.

Fiction of a mind and the realities of a life, are overwhelming at times, just to see. Hearing the truths of a life, can bring you to sobbing tears. Being let into the fiction in a mind causes laughter intrigue, and even at times fear.

The transformation is one of understanding, even maturity. Movies, sitcoms, night-time soap-operas serials, and the news, will never be real. Ads try to sell you what you don’t need. The news is, dumbed down and propagandized. A sit-com shows you a life of mirth, people don’t normally have, and make you want it. Night time soaps show men or women stylized in a dream, and they will never be your partner. The serial dramas show you power and wealth regular people don’t have, but leave you desirous of both. The Movies are all the above.

These tools used to manipulate opinion and sell products, have the mind trapped. They have minds earning for a false reality. Why does the world not change? Trapped minds living in a media created, false reality of escapism.

Escapism to other lives and experiences. And all the goods advertised during the ad break, silently say, I can give you  your hearts deepest desire.  These goods will bring you happiness success and love, is a brazen fiction of the mind. The shows serve to distract you, from the problems and concerns of daily life. The news shapes itself, to what you need to hear., to keep you feeding into the Colosseum for the show.

The slap of reality, brought the transformation. Real people. Real life. These are real entertainments. It all starts with turning off “The Idiot Box” and tuning back on our real relationships. . As there will never be anything more interesting, comical, scary, moving, alluring, educating or down right entertaining, than those we allow into our lives. When we make our transformation, and turn off the tool of manipulation, “The Idiot Box”, and turn on to the one truth, all we will ever really have is each other. Frugality is all that’s needed, not forbiddance.

You Don’t Give The Muslim Brotherhood 1.5billion Dollars!!!!!!!

I’m not Sure is the story can be verified up as of yet, but I’d like to say this straight away. You Don’t Give The Muslim Brotherhood 1.5billion Dollars!!!!!!!. No matter the party No matter what Western Country you are, without resolution of regional unrest. Our support of Dictatorships needs to end.

In the end it always comes back to haunt us. I don’t think it matters the party of which western country, they have all taken this path. The easy way. The logic of buying peace from your enemy or competition, only serves to empower them onwards.

We speak of being on the right side of history, now is the time to do it. If there is conflict better now than later. But for sure I’m sick of spitting on the ethical high ground.

A Game of Control and Power

I have a certain level of disappointment with my peers. How can the present manipulations fraud and lies go unnoticed. To me, these games played by those who have money and power or both, are obvious. Yet the outcry, for response to these issues, is almost silent. It’s as if the majority of the populace is willingly deaf dumb and blind to the abuse perpetrated by those with money and or power.

The manipulations, by the powers that be, is almost glaringly obvious. Even pushing up-stream against public opinion polls, to achieve their goal. The reason for going against the grain, money and power.

One would think, in a time of crisis, awareness would rise. I have found this assumption on my part false. In fact I feel it’s just the opposite. I see less attention paid by individuals, who should know better. It’s as if the citizens who should be actively speaking out, have become ostriches, by placing their heads fully in the sand.

Stealing the investments of individual savers, with high frequency algorithmic trading and the printing of money, are just 2 ways the public is taking it in the shorts. Remember that every dollar printed lowers buying power. Another way to look at the issue, sees your working wage shrinking, as more dollars enter the system. This, with the close to free money loaned to those who meet the criteria, after bank bailouts, is another burden to which the citizens are mostly blind.

The majority of citizens seem to be blind, when it comes to mainstream medias cozy relationship with government, and the manipulations they use to shape and form public opinion. I have commented, in the past, how media is beholding to the powers that be, for a story. A term I feel is appropriate. I see a story as, most commonly, a work of fiction. Then, when you add entertainment and Hollywood stories, and you come full circle, with the dissemination of processed fluff, presented as hard news.

The situation, when I look at the state of world finance, our changing domestic policy, and our present foreign policy of physical occupation, is dire. The confluence of all these things paints a much different picture, than the one given to our country’s citizens. This will get worse, not better. Even with all the promises made by improving statistic.

I know no other way, than writing on these topics, to reach people with my message. A message that pleads with my fellows, for increased awareness, and the questioning of the powers that be. Even having as few readers as I do I must still try. I must still write. Just the possibility of  increased awareness, in one person, gives me the drive to publish my thoughts and concerns on these issues each day.

Fighting the Egocentric Army

Worry, concern, compassion for ones fellow human beings, has faded. The manufactured, self-centered, egocentric army advances. As well as the societal filters that blind us to the suffering of others, and the growing inequity within our own systems of belief. With little notice or commentary, the populations of advanced countries are guided to their own self-absorbed doom. Led as they are, even in times of crisis, to accept the manipulations of the media. Even answering the call for increased consumption of goods, propagandized as the public’s duty. This “duty” going almost completely unquestioned. Because those that do question, receive the media’s label of anti-American. Or worse.

Just the promotion of these actions to the public, serves to advance an intolerant view. Between disinformation and the advancement of a competitive consumer culture, you have a less informed population willing to stand in a line. Sometimes, for days. Simply to replace a still workable and functioning gadget, with a slightly revised version of the same product. Never taking into account, they already have and own the same product.

It’s manufactured madness. A condition which allows specific concerns, to tell the public who they are, by what they believe and consume. It allows for the stifling of dissenting opinion, and sets the mark between the in and out, the haves and have not, the popular in crowd, and those to be considered outside the excepted norms. It divides a population, because a united population is a danger to the dominate systems power.

Government, finance, and business worldwide, can’t survive in their present form, if a united front, of an educated populace, not distracted by entitled consumerism, or a feeling of needing to keep up with the Joneses”, truly grows in numbers and voice. If awareness grows, concerning the actions of the manipulative mainstream media. The public might speak out against the dumbing down of information and the reporting of half stories. The public could begin to see how media corporations edited news stories and choose advertising that fits the media company’s corporate agenda.

The conversation about a media created, first world, programmed consumer culture, must continuing. It is key to ending its folly. There are many unread news sources, columns, and bloggers, opining on the same issues mentioned here. I am proud to add my thoughts and words to the others, with continued posts on this subject.

I want the best for my fellows, and that includes truth. One person at a time, is how to break the hold on the public’s psyche. The possibility of my words, added to the other voices, helping one person to change their perspective and point of view, away from the self-absorbed doom, is why I continue writing.

Programed by a Small Box

I often wonder, when I hear someone talking about the television program they watched the previous night, if they acknowledge the word “Program”. Program is the perfect word.

From the time we are small, whether on our own or by the hands of our parents, we are programmed by a small box. The mistake from the start, was thinking the box was there to inform educate and entertain. The mistake was thinking your favorite series was given a Emmy Award, for anything but the massive revenue created from the sale promotional segment contracts. The mistake is thinking your TV main purpose is to catch the big game on the weekend. When the truth is, all the programing all the broadcasts serve only two purpose. Those purposes are,  manipulating  public opinion, and the sale of commercial products.

We live in a time where the best and brightest in the field of psychology, are working in advertising. Which makes sense to me, because of the limited time a “program’ break provides, for the material presented to capture your mind. One thing however, that works in their favor is repetition.

Take for example, since this manipulation starts so early, the commercials presented during children’s programing. These commercials seem harmless with their bright colors catch phrases, and cartoon characters. This is far from the truth. What is happening with those commercials is indoctrination to product branding. Any parent who’s ever had a child on the cereal isle, in the grocery store, knows how effective their marketing can be. Even going so far as to bring children and parents into conflict over what’s for breakfast.

This branding, and the building of product loyalty, whether warranted or not, is  in evidence  in adults also. Lines for new electronics and Black Friday injures prove this out nicely.

I’m also fairly sure, I’d have better luck in helping a child understand this issue. A child’s indoctrination to the manipulations of the medium of television. Also children, have little understanding when it comes to social status through symbols. When almost every adult knows the difference between a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota corporate logos.

Each and every commercial advertisements has had a show or series made, so they have the media vehicle with which to sell you, not only their product or service, but a feeling or emotion. Take for example, BP. So much damage so much outcry, but introduced the Human Element campaign, and regained much public approval. Coke is a decent example also at this time of year, for those who remember the “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” campaign. Also ATT’s, tear jerking, “Reach Out and Touch Someone” long-distance calling campaign, shows the attempt to manipulate the consumer.

The commercial manipulations mentioned above, are merely a few overt examples. The real issue is those who are much more subtle in their message. I don’t consider the common use of sex to sell in my list of subtle manipulations.

Really what I’d like, is for those who can’t see  the reality of my words, in their daily television viewing, to read this. Just some simple awareness, is a good place to start. Becoming an educated consumer, and not a manipulated one, is the desired result. Not the abolishment of Television as a medium, .

As a side note, I would have enjoyed giving Ivy Lee and Edward Bernays a kick to the shin.

Education, The Fourth Estate and a Totalitarian Future

I’ve been called an information sponge. I, however, consider myself only a watcher. A spectator, who studies the nature of man . Having in my life, dealt with many suffering from psychotic schizoid dissociative borderline paranoid delusional, personality disorders. The symptomatology of each of these psychiatric circumstances, are the elements I use to judge micro and macro information disseminated to the public by the fourth estate.

I’m just getting used to being a critic. I think it’s helped over the last two years, that I’ve sat as a panelist, reviewing literature for an award. This has been a quality experience, and plays nicely into my inclinations to check up on the mainstream press. A group definitely needing a bit of oversight.

Like our economy here in America, the press also works on a trickle down philosophy. Dumbed down false stories, partial  stories, celebrity stories, sound bite disinformation, and propaganda are the tools used now by our fourth estate. They create a daily spectacle for the people, holding the line given by those they are beholding to for access. This falls into access to basic press briefing, personal interviews, and even insider tips.

The fourth estate being chained to these, their sources, in no way allows for  a dissemination of  accurate unbiased reporting of fact. It only allows for the status quo presently in place, to continue its campaign of dumbing down their viewer the voter and the country.

The worst of it is, if you look at the state of education and the impotence of the fourth estate to inform with actually facts not opinion based spin, sets up a catastrophe in the making. A poorly educated, ill-informed public is they easiest to manipulate.

It will be those young and coming of age who will be the most effected. I think if we love our children maybe we should step away from the propaganda of mainstream disinformation. It’s easy to do in these day we live now. The Internet here, is a blessing. The Internet can also be a blessing in your child’s, “No Child Left Behind” education. Especially considering a no child left behind class, learns at the pace of the slowest among the classroom of students. I call it an, “almost all children left behind” policy. Net time can help this, in a time where schools can’t afford text books for each students use. A condition causing few, to no text books, to ever be brought home for further study.

What I wish most is a return to a skeptical public. As opposed to the sheep like acceptance slowly coming on the wings of poor education, and a beholding fourth estate, that is a growing sector of manipulation, and dare I say, flat-out lies. No change to this present trends of the fourth estate and education , leads to a quietly created totalitarian government.

Just thought I’d throw this opinion out there, to kick around for a bit.

Empire and Fear

I’m a news watcher listener and reader. I try to feed myself a diet of news that’s balanced. Often after a story is presented, I move to research what’s been said, digging into the background. This digging usually starts from my favorite subject geopolitical economics.  I think this subject is best viewed through the lens, of  the well known phrase, “follow the money”. In looking at the subject  I’ll mention, I try to find who benefits from the decisions taken.

I don’t expect this to be clear to all, or  or even make sense to many others who might read this. These things are personal observations, and may not be thought of in the same way by other. These statements on my observations are disturbing, and well should be. I see them as an ever increasing trend, from individuals and media alike. Maybe they bother or disturb others. Really, I’m not sure. I don’t see the subjects presented in a way, that’s even close to my observation.

The subject that has captured me recently is the rhetoric of violence, being seen in our presidential campaign, this election season and it’s companion rhetoric from the main stream media. whether it be on the subject of Iranian nuclear capability, resetting the reset in post Soviet relations with Russia, or going to war with China. But at least it’s easy to see who will benefit, if the present rhetoric is carried to it’s ends.

The rhetoric is strange to me. Strange rhetoric towards Iran, when every intelligence agency, here and abroad, says they have not made any decision to make a nuclear weapon. Describing their enrichment to 20%  for medical Isotopes, as a weapons program. When sanctions leave the cancer patients to die without treatments. Treatments they create because those sanctions otherwise would deny them materials for treatment. I’m no fan of Iran don’t get me wrong, but enrichment to 90% is need for weapons grade use. This would mean many of their centrifuges would require an upgrade.  Hard to do with such scrutiny of their nuclear program by the IAEA.

The Russian reset has been productive, and they shouldn’t bee viewed as our greatest enemy. Negotiations for less weapons through agreements, have been happening for decades now, and should be no surprise. Nor should there be shock, that a second term president has more freedom to negotiate , not having to run for office again. And Russia I’m sure would like to see some reciprocity, having made concessions for situations and actions in our nations stated interests

Then there is China, where more cooperation, as apposed to threats, might be more effective. As for blaming them for our lost jobs, it’s a gross error.  We’ve done that to ourselves over the last 30 yrs, as we’ve changed policy and practices. Making a move from an industrial based to a service based economy.

We also need to look at,  holding an imperial position world wide. When you hold such a position, you must share your wealth with those colonies you hold, to maintain them. Then add in the costs of foreign aid packages, to places held as imperial positions. This I look at as foreign jobs programs, when there is little accomplished at home in the area of  job growth.

Our future foreign policy, is suffering with these candidate comments. Our media appears to be war mongering and fear mongering for it’s own benefit . Pushing stories with little or no basis in truth or fact. Stories by news sources, that have a direct benefit from a war posture. General Electric owns one network, and is a huge military contractor. The others networks to have a vested interest, in sensationalizing news also. Even if it’s only getting you to view their network, so they can show you ads. And one has to think, what better way to keep a population frightened as they watch, than embellishment and sensationalized news broadcasting  .

Please don’t fall for the fear angle. Remember please, the manipulation of your emotions thru broadcast media, plays with the collective mind. I think this can be seen, if one  remember the terror color scale.  It had no other use, than to keep you afraid and watching.  Manipulating  emotions, so we would all acquiesce, to a false war in Iraq.

These things that happened before, are happening in our media again. It’s also showing its self, in the words of our top politicians. Please no matter your political belief watch closely. Be  truly informed, so to see these manipulations of you emotions through fear, for what they are. What they are is Infotainment. Infotainment is meant to manipulate emotions, to cause fear through half truths and misinformation. Presenting stories worded to shock and scare,  keeps the viewership up. An exercised effort to raise their advertising revenue. The courts have ruled, the news media has no responsibility to present truth. (ref. rBGH)

I urge you, before the politicians and the mainstream news media scare you into a particular belief, that you research what’s said, before you follow the herd motivated by the present false fears headline story and  its rhetoric. this is truly important as we set up for another four year presidential term, for one of the two mainstream candidates.
